registration email not being sent

Hi, 
I've searched these forms this morning and spent hours yesterday trying to figure out why an email is not being sent to the user after he registers an account. 
I followed this tutorial on how to setup the email sending http://www.aspfree.com/c/a/ASP.NET/ASPNet-35-User-Account-Creation-for-Your-Website/3/
here is my web.config, relevent part. i changed the username and password in this post.
