Some default content for asp:ContentPlaceHolder

Hello,
Is there a way  I can make my asp:ContentPlaceHolder's have some default content that will appear along with content in other pages?
For example, in the master page I will set a background image to an asp:ContentPlaceHolder and in a page later I will add some text.
Can something like that be done?
