tabindex datalist control problem

 hi on my aspx page i have a data bound checkboxlist, and I have set up the tabindex for the control.  During runtime when I use tab key to move from another control over to onto the checkboxlist, the whole checkboxlist is focused, and there is no way that I can select a checkbox without mouse click. 
Is there a way that I can set up tabindex for each individual checkbox in the checkboxlist control?
