grouping by date

I have an issue wid query
select count(docid) as  docid,date from cntr_kio_docid group by date
im getting result as below
docid  date
7         01/06/2012
8        02/06/2012
8        02/07/2012 --->here it is mixing 7th month also but i need this 7th month should come after all dates finished for 6th month...
15      03/06/2012
17      03/07/2012

Here Its grouping by datesequence but not by month ..how can i group by date & month..Please help
