populating dropdownlist as a custom control in createuserwizard

 I have reviewed the post here and else where to try to figure this out myself. However, to no avail. I have not been able to get the drop down to populate...and obviously not save to the db. I tried to use my db connection I created in my web config file. I put this code in my .vb file:
