Subroutines that work with elements in templates

 Hi,
I want to write a subroutine to read values from a string, loop through the possibilities in a CheckBoxList, and select the ones that match.  
I'm having difficulty finding a way to write a sub routine to reference an element inside an <asp:FormView> template.

I have a CheckBoxList inside of a FormView (created by VS 2008 Express) I'm trimmed out a lot of the code.  (I hope I didn't trim too much.)
