I am considering making an application that allows people to sign up to a site and become members. I am looking into using the standard ASP.NET membership system (adding it to my existing database) and also connecting a couple of extra tables in the database to store more detailed profile information such as postal address etc.
However, I would like to know how secure this would be? I haven't dealt with an application that stores members before. Should I be encrypting all data? Would this slow down the application to a crawl every time I try to access my data?
Any tips/articles to point me in the right direction would be much appreciated!
