gridview: how to display a fixed number of characters?

Hi,

I'm trying to display a varchar column (in a SQL database) in a binded gridview control and I need to display the very first 20 characters of each row.

I've tried several ways but they never worked very well. Could anybody give me some hints on how to do that?
