I have a database where measurement values are inserted in a table permantently. Cause I am using Sql Server Express 2008 R2 (limited to database size of 10GB) and also cause of limited harddisk I have to delete old data in the datatable.
For this I check regulary if the number of rows in the table exceeds a specified number and if so delete the oldest values.
The fields of the table are like this: ID (bigint), Timestamp (datetime), Value (float), Item (int). After a row is inserted there are no more changes on it. So I choosed the fill factor 100 for the indexes.
Will this methode work out or will I get troubles because of file and index fragementation? What is the recommended way for this?
