format the value of string variable

Hello, I have a string variable which I wish to format with red color and bold text. I am not using a lable or textbox. I have defined a string variable which I will be passing in a funtion.Any help appreciated. Here is the code:
Dim subject as string
subject = "New Request"
function(email, subject, sender)
I wish to pass the contents of variable subject "New Request" in red bold text to the funtion.
