I have a web page that uses a dropdownlist to display part numbers from a database.  There are approx 64,000 items that are added to the DDL by iterating through an sqldatareader.  The page load time under IE6 was just a few seconds, but when I started testing our site for compatibility issues with IE8 I found out that the load time increased to several MINUTES during which time iexplorer.exe was consuming 100% of the CPU time.  I narrowed it down to specifically the ddl.items.add() statement as the source of the time hit.
Has anyone else seen this issue?  Is there a way to 'fix' it?  (Besides not loading 64,000 items in a DDL! )
Thanks, Kevin
