Event to track click throughs

Hi Everyone,

I have a site that is supported by click throughs to sponsors.

I would like to track the click through on my side.

I was thinking of a DIV tag that floats OVER the sponsor area, and when the user clicks this area, an event is fired

and handled in the server side (writing a datetime to a datebase)

and then allows the click through to go on....

 

does anyone have a code snippet that will show me how this is accomplished?
