is it ideal to the primary key as an int on an identity columns which increments automatically?
what if i have a column of type char.. i store an alphanumeric value there..
each time a new record needs to be entered i get the last inserted value, calculate the next value and then insert it?
i think youtube does something like that right? their video id is 11 character long alphanumeric..
