Problems restoring a datatable from a view state object

Hey everyone, I'm running into an issue with else statement of the code block. I'm getting an error saying its unable to cast object of System.Collections.Generic.List[System.Object] to type System.Data.DataTable. I'm using this code inside of a sharepoint page, but if I add the same code to like regular .NET page, then it works fine.
Can anyone help?
