How to change the UserName in MembershipUser? Is there any disadvantage by changing the username?

Hi,
I am trying to allow users to update their UserNames. But I found the UserName property is read-only, so the UserName is not allowed to be changed.
The solution I found for this is to use SQL script to update the UserName. However, I am afraid that there are some disadvantage by doing this. Would some one help me with this, please? Is there a better way to solve this changing UserNames issue? Is there any disadvantage for changing UserName with a SQL script?
