cast as code behind

im writing a utility class that enables / disables controls based on certain conditions.  I want to be able to access the controls in my utility class.  If i pass the page as a reference is it possible to cast it to its original type.  Ive tried this but the code behind type is not available in the utility class e.g

 codebehind

public partial class HardwareRequest : requestPage{
//some code
}

in my utility class im trying to do the following however hardwarerequest is not available

HardwareRequest currPage = (HardwareRequest)page;
