I've made a class that inherits textbox and IValidator in order to create a self validating textbox in order to not have to use the validator controls. It is working perfectly so far except for one rather frustrating problem, it seems to ignore ValidationGroup entierly.
Here's an example for how the control is implemented<fieldset>
