Need to create image slideshow

Hello.
I have a page showing information about an object(car, house, etc). The information is stored in database. Every object has pictures. It can be 1 picture, it can be more. I need to make a slide show(not automatic) with previous and next buttons on the "object information page".
On page load i can retrieve a list of filenames in xml and i was thinking of using a generic handler to get picture(like getPicture.ashx?id=image.jpg).
Is it possible to create i simple small slideshow without doing a postback everytime i click on next or previous buttons?
