asp code in

I'm trying to add an xhtml rss link in my html head.  To do this, i need to run or print asp code in my <head> tags.  When i try to make a link using <%= rssUrl %>, it actually puts this code in the HTML code.  When i remove the "runat=server", it will compile the asp code in the head, however some of my pages have asp.net objects that require runat=server.  Is there a better way to add this link to my head, or run asp code in the HTML code when runat=server is used?
