So heres my problem
I'm using some C# code to encrypt strings for addition to my DB and for decrypting strings back out again. This works just fine.
But of course I need to store the strings somewhere. I don't want to hard code them into any classes or config files in plain text for obvious reasons.
The best way I found upto now was to use the "protectSection" function to encrypt part of the web config file, so ideally, this works fine on my own machine but because I use shared hosting, I don't have the correct permissions to protect the section - "access to this path is denied". And my hosts aren't able to grant me the correct permissions (or they don't really understand what I'm trying to do, but I'm working on them!!)
So how then would you recomend I proceed? I need to store the cipher key somewhere!?! Someone told me somthing ...
