I am fairly new to ASP.NET 2.0, but I am trying to create a gridview based on a table I want to maintain. In this table, I have a field called Vendor Type. It is a 2 character code that the description is in a different table. I figured out how to create a dropdown for this field in Edit mode, but when I am just displaying it, I'm not sure how to handle getting the value to display. Under the <ItemTemplate>, I put the dropdown definition there as well, but it takes a long time to display, plus it shows a dropdown when not in edit mode. So can anyone suggest how to handle getting this field displayed with the correct text without using a dropdown? Like I said, the dropdown works fine for edit mode. Also, what is the best way to make fields not visible in a gridview?
