Events within ASP.NET wizard control

I am using the asp wizard control to create an online job application. I am using a usercontrol for each step in the wizard for better management. Here is one example of the problems that I am having. In one usercontrol I have a checkbox that when checked, I want a text box to become visible to provide the user an option to enter comments. However, the oncheckchanged event does not fire until the the "Next" button on the wizard is clicked. Does the wizard control override usercontrol events? How can I correct this? Thanks!
