Is MVC the best to use for a new application?

I know it's just in preview for MS, but MVC is used a lot of places.  OTH, I struggle because I know there is separation in multi-layered applications also.  I just don't have enough experience to know if one is better than the other.

 For example, is using the BLL "better" and MVC?

 What layers map to MVC from regular .net using BOL, BLL, and DAL?  Truth is that I'm trying to break out of the RAD development of sqldatasource and the like and finally have some pluggable code (I think that means it might have a chance at being pluggable, anyway.)
