Using labels from DataList

Hi,
 
I'm trying to get the value of some data-driven labels in a DataList on a button click.
I'm trying to do this with the follow code: 
 
string subject = ((Label)e.Item.FindControl("lbl_subject")).Text;
 
I'm getting an error message from 'Item' because 'System.EventArgs does not contain a definition for 'Item''. I'm guessing this is because i need to put DataListItemEventArgs instead of EventArgs but when i do i get the error: CS0123: No overload for 'btn_send_Click' matches delegate 'System.EventHandler'.

Does anybody know a way around this?
