Using Drop Down list to populate a Label but having trouble getting value to my lable on page load

Hi Folks
 
I have a ddl that I am using to query data and I also have a label on the page that I set the value.text = to my ddl on my page load the label is blank if I change my selected value on my ddl it then populates the label but I need it to get the first value on page load some of my users may only have 1 option in there ddl.
 
I have tried a few things... my drop down list i am working with is DDLTeamConnection the label i need to set = to is LabelTeamCode you can see form my code behind i am also setting a varible = to that as well for other sql querys down the line.
