string manipulation

I want to write one applion where i can handle strings
like BBCODE kind of thing
tags with square bracket.
1) check of closing tag is there
2) check if tag does not have particular string in it or number of spaces is limited
3) check if value inside tag has abc in end etc
what should i use? whats the best thing to be sued in such scenario.
