I am new to ASP.NET and am reading an ASP.NET 3.5 textbook, in which I have reached the stage of grappling with the concept of anonymous types (with relation to LINQ to SQL). My problem is that anonymous types look more like anonymous classes to my simple mind and I am now unclear as to exactly what a 'type' is. I am familiar with data types such as String, Double, Integer, etc, but the word now seems to have a much wider meaning in this unfamiliar (to me) world of object oriented programming. Can anyone give me an idiot's guide to the proper definition of a 'type'?
