OnCommand for linkbutton

I have a linkbutton control contained in a repeater which has both an oncommand and a inclientclick event associated with it.
If I set the oncommand on the button itself the oncommand fires, however if I try and fire it from the code behind it doesnt fire.
I may of course be doing something entirely wrong.
I use the following to set the oncommand
Deal.Click += new EventHandler(Button_Click);
