close window before window.print

Hi,
I am show window using window.open() using javascript to print the page.
But when I close the window before the print dialog is opened it's throwing the following javascript error:
 Line: 296
Error: Function expected
can any one let me know how to resove this?

The following is my code:

a.document.open("text/html");
a.document.write($(elem).html()); a.document.close(); a.print();
a.close(); }
