If I have ajax calls to c# code on the server that try to retrieve data, how would I deal with empty return values?
Say for example AJAX requests all students with first name starting with Z, and there are none:

static IList<students> returnByFirstName (string c) { var students = //expression compare with string c return students; } So if there are no students, is there a way of returning a string stating that no students were found, or would I have to use javascript to generate this message based on there being no values in "students"?
Thing is, it seems it would be easier to deal with this stuff in the server code, as I will have to be dealing with a lot of different cases.
