ASP Drop Down List

Is it possible to bind a drop down with a list of values. Then bind the text that is not part of the list of bound items?
The idea is to have a list of valid items and then bind the users selection to the list. I want to show the item they previously entered even if it is not valid. I will force them to change the value to one of the valid items in the list.
