Trying to rename image before upload and trim any special charcters from filepath??

hi,

I have a file upload control on my page that allows logged in Users to upload images.

These images are stored in a directory on the server and the FilePath in the SQL table.
I have 2 issues to fix
1, If the image is has long file path with many characters from the users system or then it sometimes does not display.
2, I am using url rewriter and if image is the same name of the user page it does not alway display.

Solutions
1,
I want to be able to trim the file path before it gets inserted to the database so there is no "-" for example?
2,
I want to rename each image and give it a generic name so it does not interfere with the URL rewriter?
