problem with autgen code

Hi I have a web project vs2012 with a dropdown list (autopost back set to true) and a button (postback url set to the same page). Anyhow when the user selects the dropdown box the correct event fires (dropdown list click event) but when the user clicks on the button the page loads (autopostback if true returns), then for some reason the dropdown list click event fires, finally the button click event fires. Any ideas?
Another minor issue, I can not seem to get a gridview value for a boolean data type, tried
foreach (GridViewRow gvr in gvwcontrol.Rows)
{
bool btest = Boolean.TryParse (gvr.Cells[11].Text, out result);
}
where 11 is the column of interest, have verified there is correct data in the gridview.
