Looking for some advice learning ASP.NET and MVC 4

I'm new to ASP.NET and wanted to get a bit of advice from other ASP.NET users.
I've been developing using PHP for about 7 years now. But, during that time I've also been developing desktop applications using C#. After using a MVC framework in PHP (Laravel) I decided to take a look at ASP.NET and MVC 4. I like the C# language over PHP, and I read that MVC is well developed. I have followed through on the ASP.NET 4 Jump Start on Microsoft's Virtual Academy and pretty much understand MVC 4.
There are still grey areas though. I'm the type of guy that likes to start with a basic project and likes to have control over what I build. The "Internet Application" is great for learning, but I like a clean sheet. I've yet to find tutorials, books, or training on starting from scratch. For example, I still don't know how to hook in a database of my choice. I don't know how to create controllers. or models, from a blank class. I don't understand much of what is bein ...
