how to change label dynamically in aspx

hi all,
I want to change the "Text" property in asp code instead of c# during page load.
and the value must be retrieve from db.
<asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" Text=get_text_value_from_db('button1')/>
fyi the above is just illustration on what i want to achieve and it's not working.
how do i achieve something like above?
the reason i want to do that is my form got plenty of control and label. and i do not wish to do it during page load as kind of more troublesome.
