client side script controller running in infinite loop

we used an infragistics 8.2 webasyncrefreshpanel with 30 secs timeout on aspx page script and we are calling this refresh funtion at a button click. when we click on button there is a progress image which works. In the code behind file we are calling a store procedure on button click event which inserts and updates some data in table.
Recently we have faced a strange behaviour that on button click this progress funtion is running in infinite loop. we tried from different machines but from each we got same issue. We moved ahead and restarted the iis of our application server and this issue solved.
What can be the issue? is this something related to iis or something about the client script. this happened only once and when we trying to replicate same scenario then we are not able to get this issue again.
