How to make label1 not to enclosed by in HTML ?

I have a label control on my aspx page
<asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text="USA"/>
and
a code
Label1.Text = DropDownList2.SelectedValue.ToString



and the HTML now generated is like this

<span id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_Label1">USA</span>
However, I do not want it be enclosed by <Span> in HTML
Is there way to get rid of it ?
