Date Format

Hi
Can someone please help me with Date Format issue.
My Xml requires date in the format as such 2009-11-28T00:00 and the XSL datatype is date so I can not take string. 
I have a method that converts to the format I need.
private static string FormatDate(string date)
        {
            return string.IsNullOrEmpty(date) ? string.Empty : DateTime.Parse(date).ToString("yyyy-MM-ddTHH:mm");
        }
But when I am do Convert.ToDateTime() it converts to 2009-11-28T00:00:00 and subsequently XSL validation will fail.
How do I convert my date to above?
