Membership Security: I need to use same encrypt/decrypt mechanism

Hello,

I need to trigger the same encrypt/decrypt mechanism that the Membership provider uses.  I've been digging around the source code, and it doesn't look impossible, but it doesn't look that easy.  Has anyone already done this?  Easy or difficult to do?
