A textbox which retains linebreaks and line spacing.

Hi how can i retain the text format entered into a textbox, for instance linebreaks and line spacing.

 For instance what i have done when typing this post, there is a line space above. Reason being when using a normal textbox, when the entered text is saved to the database it does not retain the linespacing or line breaks. Thanks
