string.IndexOf backwards?

Is there anyway to find a substring in a string given an index in the string backwards?

For example if I have this string: "This is a string...", and the startPositon of the word "string"; 10, I want to find the start position for the word "This"(0) or "is" (5).

Any suggestions?
