Sainath's Advice on Monday, May 30, 2011 :

Hi,

Business Objects primarily is a strong player in the "business intelligence" space. Other players in the business intelligence space include IBM Cognos, Hyperion, MS BI, SAS, Microstrategy.

This is a niche space. One thing you should always remember about a niche space is that - enter it if you have the confidence to excel in it i.e. if you can become a real wizard in using the tools and applying the specialized concepts relevant to that area. The advantage is that not everyone enters this space - so theoretically you have less competition. At the same time, not every organization believes in using BI tools, the leading few understand and appreciate the value of this information. I personally know quite a few people who have excelled in such niche areas. But one thing was common - they were very skilled in their core niche area. So that's the key. I hope this helps you to arrive at a informed decision.
