Sainath's Advice on Friday, February 22, 2013 :
Hi,

If you become an expert SQL developer, there are many specialized areas you will be able to venture into. Having said that, it also depends upon the organization you work in at the time , are they needing to fill such specialist positions or not?

Typical long-term career options could be:
  • Application DBA - application DBA should be an expert at writing stored procedures ,etc
  • Maintenance DBA - performance tuning of databases, etc. Of course, there are many DBAs in the industry right now who are happy taking DB backups, etc but you should never fall into the trap of the comfort zone. You will grow only if you stretch, and any kind of growth involves moving against the force of gravity.

What you could do is try and speak to other persons working in the same company and ask them what kind of roles are available to SQL developers in the long run and then come to a decision.

Hi Sainath',

Thanks For your Reply .

I want to know about Business Inteligence Development,

IS SSRS and SSIS having good future ah ....

Sainath's Advice on Monday, February 25, 2013 :
Business intelligence development also has a good future - but ideally you should not restrict yourself in only MSBI technologies. There are a lot of dedicated BI software solution providers in whose technologies you can upgrade your skills.
